You could be in Star Wars: Episode VII...

But not if you are a resident of Singapore.

Residents of Belgium, Italy, Malta and Thailand are also "expressly prohibited from entering" the contest on www.omaze.com, which is linked to a fundraising campaign for Star Wars: Force for Change, which is meant to benefit UNICEF (United Nations Children's Fund).

Somehow, we have been relegated to the dark side.

The grand prize that has Star Wars fans in a tizzy includes a VIP London set visit, as well as the chance to shoot a scene for Episode VII.

The website states that no purchase is necessary to enter or win. Also, a "donation, purchase or payment will not increase the chances of any of your individual entries winning any prize". Those eligible can complete a registration form which does not require a donation. Or, they can receive an entry chance for every increment of US$10 donated.

All of which is moot since we are in that exclusive group singled out for exclusion. In our case, it is because of restrictions in our local sweepstakes laws. In an email response, Ms Miranda Pfeiffer from Omaze says: "We would absolutely love to allow entrants from Singapore and we hope that those regulations will be changed in the future, but until they are, we must adhere to their laws."
