Taylor Swift cancels Bangkok show due to political unrest in Thailand

American singer Taylor Swift has called off her Bangkok concert next month due to the political unrest in Thailand.

E! Online reports that Swift was scheduled appear for a sold-out show on June 9, but concert promoter BEC-Tero said that the event was cancelled "due to recent events in Thailand", adding that "this has been a difficult decision for all parties".

Swift also wrote on her Twitter account: "I'm sending my love to the fans in Thailand. I'm so sad about the concert being canceled."

This would have been the country music star's first visit to Thailand.

E! also reported that Swift is not the first artist to cancel a gig due to the political situation there.

Guitarist Eric Clapton cancelled his February show after an outburst of violence took over Bangkok, resulting in the deaths of four children and one adult.

Swift is scheduled to perform in Shanghai on May 30.
