My 2014 World Cup Hotties: Not just a dream team but the dreamiest team

By now, there are probably thousands of different images on who the hottest players to watch at the world cup are. So I thought I would actually do something different, and build a team of really good looking guys. My version of fantasy football out of the 736 players who will be donning their national colours on the field.

Who cares about a dream team when I can build the dreamiest team alive.

Honestly, picking a team with both looks, and skills, is a lot more challenging then I thought. But here is my best shot.

1. Eiji Kawashima

JAPAN, GOALKEEPER #1

56 International Caps

0 International Goals

Age: 31

185cm

FIRST INTERNATIONAL: Japan - Korea DPR 17 Feb 2008

DATE OF BIRTH: 20 Mar 1983

CURRENT CLUB: Standard Liege (BEL)

He is the go-to goalkeeper for the Japan national squad with 56 international caps under his belt. And this hottie has also been the face behind a couple of brands. And oh, did we mention, on the cover of magazines?

If that did not convince you, check the gallery above for a couple more.

He has been seriously underrated in the hottie stakes that have many of the European faces, but way too few Asian faces starring inside. So ladies. This one is for you.

Just look at those merman lines. Look at them.

Defenders:

2. Cesar Azpilicueta

SPAIN: MIDFIELDER #22

6 International Caps

0 International Goals

Age: 24

178cm

FIRST INTERNATIONAL: Spain - Uruguay 06 Feb 2013

DATE OF BIRTH: 28 Aug 1989

CURRENT CLUB: Chelsea FC (ENG)

That smile. The man is a midfielder in the Spanish squad. But usually plays fullback at Chelsea. He. Is. Hotness.

3. Sergio Ramos

SPAIN: DEFENDER #15

116 International Caps

9 International Goals

Age: 28

183cm

FIRST INTERNATIONAL: Spain - China PR 26 Mar 2005

DATE OF BIRTH:30 Mar 1986

CURRENT CLUB: Real Madrid CF (ESP)

If you're into the bad boys, he probably is one of the best around. Tattoos. Check. Badass hair. Check. Sculpted bod. Check.

One of the best defenders out there on the pitch. Probably works great off pitch too.

4. Jerome Boateng

GERMANY: DEFENDER #20

39 International Caps

0 International Goals

Age: 25

192cm

FIRST INTERNATIONAL: Russia - Germany 10 Oct 2009

DATE OF BIRTH: 03 Sep 1988

CURRENT CLUB: FC Bayern Muenchen (GER)

Because specs just got sexier.

That said, he and Philipp Lahm are touted to be the only forces able to stop Cristiano Ronaldo. And if looks could kill, I would say this is a winning look.

5. Gary Cahill

ENGLAND: DEFENDER #5

24 International Caps

3 International Goals

Age: 28

191cm

FIRST INTERNATIONAL: England - Bulgaria 03 Sep 2010

DATE OF BIRTH: 19 Dec 1985

CURRENT CLUB: Chelsea FC (ENG)

He has said he is not used to the conditions in Brazil, referring to the heat. I say, he causes a fair amount of heat of his own.

Thirsty? Drink up.

Cahill will be playing alongside some iconic players, so he has to be ready to step into his game.

Midfielders

6. James Troisi

AUSTRALIA: MIDFIELDER #14

11 International Caps

1 International Goals

Age: 25

177cm

FIRST INTERNATIONAL: Singapore - Australia 22 Mar 2008

DATE OF BIRTH: 03 Jul 1988

CURRENT CLUB: Melbourne Victory FC (AUS)

This picture has been circulating quite a bit on the Internet. To be perfectly honest, it was a tough choice picking from the Australian team. There were lots of good-looking boys on the squad. So why did Troisi make the list? Well, his first international match was with Singapore. So he had that wee edge over the rest.

And I can't quite make out the words on his chest, so I'm going to pretend it is some amalgation of my name.

7. Makoto Hasebe

Makoto Hasebe

JAPAN: MIDFIELDER #17

78 International Caps

2 International Goals

Age: 30

180cm

FIRST INTERNATIONAL: USA - Japan 10 Feb 2006

DATE OF BIRTH: 18 Jan 1984

CURRENT CLUB: FC Nuernberg (GER)

There is something incredibly endearing about this man. He looks like a model, has the stature of one. Is the Japan squad captain, and can claim credit to two international goals.

His boyish grin is disarming, and while he was up against Ki Sung-Yeung on my squad, I thought he would be a more effective player. (That, and Ki recently got married to actress Han Hye-Jin, so, he lost a few points in my book.)

8. James Rodriguez

James Rodriguez

COLOMBIA: MIDFIELDER #10

22 International Caps

5 International Goals

Age: 22

180cm

FIRST INTERNATIONAL: Bolivia - Colombia 11 Oct 2011

DATE OF BIRTH: 12 Jul 1991

CURRENT CLUB: AS Monaco (FRA)

As if that picture was not enough. Yes, he is only 22 and looks like jailbait, but this young lad is already a dad. And it seems, a rather responsible one at that too. He does seem besotted with his little daughter and has been known to bring her onto the field for photos. But the best thing about this boy, is that he actually is a really talented midfielder. In fact, one of the best there is to watch.

In fantasty football (the real fantasy football) - he actually rings in at a score of 6.5. And considering he's still a relative newbie who has time to prove his mettle, he is definitely one to watch in more ways than one.

Forwards

Edinson Cavani

URUGUAY: FORWARD #21

62 International Caps

21 International Goals

Age: 27

188cm

FIRST INTERNATIONAL: Uruguay - Colombia 06 Feb 2008

DATE OF BIRTH: 14 Feb 1987

CURRENT CLUB: Paris Saint-Germain FC (FRA)

He has actually been listed as one of the top 100 footballers in the world. And this Uruguayan reminds me of the beauty that was Heath Ledger. That charming smile and those shampoo ad worthy locks are enough to make any woman's heart flutter. As long as you ignore that ring on his finger.

His deal with Manchester United just fell through though, so I am hoping his performance in this World Cup will prove them wrong. We do need more eye candy in the English Premier League, and he will make watching the World Cup team I loathe most, more bearable.

10 Neymar Jr.

BRAZIL: FORWARD

50 International Caps

33 International Goals

Age: 22

175cm

FIRST INTERNATIONAL: USA - Brazil 10 Aug 2010

DATE OF BIRTH: 05 Feb 1992

CURRENT CLUB: FC Barcelona (ESP)

I mean, the man is on the cover of GQ. Need more be said?

But props should also be given to this talented young man for having feet like lightning. He's been playing out of position and playing right rather than left, but he still has been a force to reckon with.

Providing one of the hottest topics trending this World Cup, Neymar has been one of those dominating the World Cup on social media. And those eyes.

11 Robin Van Persie

NETHERLANDS: FORWARD #9

85 International Caps

43 International Goals

Age: 30

186cm

FIRST INTERNATIONAL: Netherlands - Romania 04 Jun 2005

DATE OF BIRTH: 06 Aug 1983

CURRENT CLUB: Manchester United FC (ENG)

This was the hardest to pick as there were so many choices. Matthew Leckie from Australia is a good-looking chap. As is Brazil's Hulk. And of course, there is Ronaldo and Torres.

But Van Persie scores the gold for being a sexy silver fox. Plus, he's captain, and consistent.

Last but not least...

Coach

Niko Kovac

CROATIA

DATE OF BIRTH: 15 Oct 1971

Apparently I wasn't the only one to notice that Niko Kovac looks like an older polished version of Joseph Gordon-Levitt. Twitter was all abuzz last night wth people commenting on the startling similarity.

And, that rounds up my winning eleven. There were many others worth a shout out, so I included some of them in the gallery on top of the page.
